Bjerkreimsboka: Torkel var aktiv på flere områder i USA, bl.a. innen kristne organisasjoner og Normannsforbundet. Han samlet inn penger hos utflytta bjerkreimsbuer til nytt gamlehjem på Vikeså. Han var på hjemmebesøk mange ganger, siste gangen i 1947.
RITES HELD SUNDAY FOR T. T. FUGLESTAD Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in Westley Lutheran church for Torkel T. Fuglestad, who died Thursday at the age of 98. Officiating at the funeral were pastors Sanford Soma, minister of the Parish, E. Strom of Fergus Falls, Minn., and R. Norheim of Pasadena, Cal., a son-in-law of Mr. Fuglestad. Music was furnished by pastor Norheim, who sang two Norwegian hymns, Swanhild Aalgaard, a solo, and Versel Fuglestad, Minneapolis, and Spencer Loge, who sang a duet. Mr. Fuglestad was born in Bjerkrean, Stavanger, Norway, March 13, 1856, and married Abigael Osland June 15, 1880. He had been an officer in the Norwegian army. They came to this country in 1883 and homesteaded in Bald Hill township where they lived ever since. Mr. and Mrs. Fuglestad observed their 74th wedding anniversary June 15. Mrs. Fuglestad in 94. Besides his wife, Mr. Fuglestad is survived by three sons, Bjorn, at home, Thorvald, Luverne, Prof. R. E. Fuglestad, Moorhead, Minn., four daughters, Mrs. Lars (Inga) Loge and Mrs. Swen (Lisa) Loge, Cooperstown, Mrs. Oswald (Gudrun) Aalgaard, at home, and Mrs. R. (Thelma) Norheim, Pasadena, Calif.; 37 grandchildren, and 49 great-grandhildren. Published in the Griggs County Sentinel-Courier, Cooperstown, North Dakota, July 1, 1954
