I did find Chrestian Strom and his wife Helen Mathea buried on the north end of the Butternut cemetery. He was my great great grandfather. My great grandfather, Tollef, was his oldest child and the only born in Norway. He is buried at the Nora Free Christian church at Hanska, but two of his sisters and brother Olaus are buried at the Butternut cemetery. My father remembers visiting Chrestian's place when he was only 5 or 6 years old, he sort of remembers the farm place being on the southeast end of Strom Lake at Butternut. All I could find on Chrestian thru the Norwegian records was that his father was Anders Tostenson and from some of the records I found Johannes Strom of Hanska was Chrestian's half brother. That matches a story that my father told me that Chrestian had a half brother, but they never knew what happened to that part of the family.

How about the Strom's buried on the south end of the Butternut cemetery, are all of them relatives as well?

I was able to trace back on the computer that the family came from the Strom farm at Oyer, Norway and they had mostly used the name of Tostenson. Some of the relatives in Norway owned part of the Kaldor Farm at Oyer, which has a web site and is still in existence.

If anyone has any information on the person's listed below especially on the parent's Tosten Andersen and Kirsti Knudsdr. What date were the parent's born, expecially who are the parents of Tosten Andersen. Hopefully someone here might have already done this research. Listed below are the children and parent's names. Kirsti Knutsdatter is in the same census at a tennant farm to Hunder http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbas...

They lived as tennant farmers at Prestlien. Tosten borne in 1789 died Oct. 8, 1849 and buried Oct. 15. Kirsti borne 1796, died Apr. 26, 1853 and buried May 4.

Anscestors to these two are found at www.kaldor.no.

For Tosten, look for Anders Houg, borne 1748, in the database. It would be Gjertrud Grimsrud who is the mother.

His son Kristian Torstensen emigrated to Linden Township, Brown County Minnesota with his wife Helene Mathea Olsdatter and their son Tollef Christiansen who was my great grandfather. Kristian's brother Johannes also settled in the same area around Lake Hanska. Once here, both brothers changed their last name to Strom. I can see why they probably did this now as their father was born in Strom. The 1801 census for Strom, was that the parish??? He is also married the tird time in 1801, which means that his second wife and mother to Tosten is dead by 1801.
