About Tpr. Richard Maurice Griffin Tickell
Richard Maurice Griffin Tickell was born at Prebbleton in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island on 25 July 1888. His parents were John Francis Tickell and Mary Louisa Tickell (née Roberts) who had married in Temuka on 20 December 1881. Richard served with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles during World War I. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 28 August 1915 at the age of 27. Richard is remembered on the Hill 60 New Zealand Memorial at Gallipoli (bio by Debbie McCauley, 3 February 2024).
