Trevor Murphy (1960 - 2021)
Brief overview:
Trevor (50), from Wendover Farm in Karkloof, near Howick was attacked and stabbed multiple times around 02h00 on 23rd April 2021. Trevor passed away en route to the hospital.
The perpetrators gained entry to the property by cutting the fence. They then went to one of Trevor's female employees rooms where she was sleeping and covered her face, tied her arms and legs and locked her in another room.
The female employee managed to untie herself and call for help.

- The attackers ransacked the home and stole two Cell Phones, a Tablet, 3 Laptops, a Flat screen TV, a Hi Fi and fled in the victim’s vehicle a White Ford Ranger, Double cab with no canopy, with Registration NR32220. The bakkie was picked up on cameras going through Merivale at 03h30.

- Update 26/04/2021: Five people were arrested after being found in possession of car and other items belonging to Trevor. Shaheen Suleiman of Magma security said Magma members along with police officers from Pietermaritzburg started patrolling the area immediately. Just after 1 am on Monday morning, April 26, Suleiman said an informant contacted Magma and informed them that the bakkie was in Pietermaritzburg. The bakkie was stopped and three people, one man and two women, were found inside the car. A 9mm pistol that belonged to Trevor was recovered from the driver.
- “Further investigation had been done where clothing items taken during the crime, some stained with blood, were also seized,” said Suleiman.

- Lulu Sapholakhe Thusi (42), and Michek Khumalo (47), both from Pietermaritzburg, appeared in court and were charged with Murphy’s murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. More charges could be added following further investigations.
- Update 27/11/2022: Thusi and Khumalo were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Pietermaritzburg high court.
- They stood trial on charges of murder, burglary, robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and kidnapping.
