Wills & Estate Documents. Will of Job Gresham Dated: August 10, 1821

In the Name of God Amen, I, Job Gresham being in a low state of health, but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament.

I give my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to be buried at the discretion of my executors, as touching my worldly goods, I do leave it in manner and form following:

I leave and bequeath to my beloved wife all of my land and plantation whereupon I now live, also 5 negroes, namely, Titus, Ann, Jail, Bob and Dice, also 4 feather beds and furniture and all my household and kitchen furniture, except 3 beds which I do leave to my children, Lewis Gresham and Polly Johnson, one bed and furniture to each of them. Likewise to my beloved wife all of my stock of horses, cattle, sheep, hogs together with my wheat, rye, oats, and so long as she lives and after her death my will and desire is to give the said tract of land to my three sons, John, William, and Lewis to be divided to wit: To my son John Gresham the part where he now lives, beginning at Henry Owsley's corner at two walnuts, thence with said Owsleys line to a large dead elm in south line across the field to a drean (drain) that leads to my spring branch, from thence down the said branch to my old line including the land that I purchased from Painter and to commence at the mouth of the drean below my spring that I have divided for my son John Gresham from thence through the spring gate by the most north corner of my garden and apple orchard from thence a straight line to a corner between myself and John Denton where there is a small pile of rocks and each is to have an equal interest in the spring, Willliam Gresham is to have the part next to John Denton's and Lewis is to have the side where my dwelling is on the said land. I give and bequeath to John Gresham, William Gresham, and Lewis Gresham, to them, their heirs or assigns forever, also I leave and bequeath to my son Edmond Gresham one negro boy name Lige with what I have given him to him and his heirs forever. Also to my son Job Gresham one negro boy named Jacob together with what I have already given him, to him and his heirs forever, then after the death of my beloved wife Mary Gresham, my wish and desire is to sell all the property to be divided between Uriah Gresham and Phillip Gresham's heirs to wit: Permeda Gresham, James Gresham, Harrot Gresham, William Gresham and Phillip Gresham these children to have their fathers eighth part, Betsy Johnson, John Gresham, William Gresham, Lydia Gresham, Lewis Gresham, and Polly Johnson, whereas the last named eighth parts are to be equally divided after settling with each other the sums I now charge them with that is: Uriah Gresham $180.00, Phillip Gresham's children $250.00, Betsy Johnson $470.00, John Gresham $300.00, Lewis Gresham $90.00, and Polly Johnson $310.00.

I do also constitute and appoint Uriah Gresham, John Gresham, and William Gresham executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby make void all other wills and testaments by me before made.

Wills & Estate Documents. Will of Edmund Gresham Walton County, Georgia

I, Edmund Gresham of the county of Walton and state of Georgia being of sound mind and disposing memory, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament revoking all other wills and testaments and codicles hereto fore made by me.

Firstly, it is my will and desire that all my just debts be paid.

Secondly, it is my will and desire that my body shall be buried in a decent and becoming manner and that a wall of hewn stone be built around the grave and immediately over it a tablet of marble to be placed with a suitable inscription thereon.

Thirdly, to my wife Nancy Gresham, I give and bequeath one half of my whole estate which I may die possessed of real and personal and ready money.

Fourthly, to my brothers Uriah Gresham, Job Gresham, John Gresham, William Gresham, Lewis Gresham, and my sisters Elizabeth Johnson, Lydia Johnson, and Mary Johnson I give and bequeath the remainder of my estate which I may die possessed of real, personal and ready money equally divided between them share and share alike.

Fifthly, In the event of the death before mentioned legatees previously to my death, I do hereby give and bequeath the share of the ones dying to his or her heirs at law.

Sixthly, I hereby constitute and appoint my wife Nancy Gresham and my nephews John Gresham, William Gresham, and James Farris Gresham executors of this my last will and testament who I hope will carry it fully into effect. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 29th day of September 1837.
