Urith Shore

Samuel Shore of Meersbrook married, March 15, 1759, at St. Margaret’s Westminster, to Urith Offley, daughter of Joseph Offley of Norton Hall in Derbyshire and his wife Mary Bohun. She was born on 12 February 1737 and died 30 November 1781, and was buried at St. James Chuchyard in Sheffield. .

There were three sons of the marriage:

1. Offley,
2. Samuel and
3. Bohun.

Her widower married second to Lydia Flower, daughter of Freeman Flower, in 1788.

On the back of the frame is the following engraved inscription: 'Urith Offley/daughter and co-heiress of/ Joseph Offley of Norton Hall, Derbyshire/ married Samuel Shore/ of Meersbrook, Derbyshire./ 15 Feb.1759.' The miniature, however, clearly dates from c.1795, and as the sitter appears to be a young woman, the identification must be in some doubt.
