About Vance Barrett Mathis
Carol and I would have been married 58 years, having married in August 1958, had she lived 15 more days. She died July 19, 2016. We lived in many places where I was in active ministry, either as a pastor or as a district superintendent in The United Methodist Church. Several years were spent on active duty as a U.S. Army Chaplain. I served in the First Infantry Division (Big Red One) in Vietnam and am retired as chaplain, lieutenant colonel. Our home is near Warner Robins AFB and we have enjoyed the benefits of military retirees. We enjoyed many years together in our lovely neighborhoood. Two of our daughters and their families live nearby, and our eldest daughter and her family live 51 miles away. Carol and I enjoyed a blessed and happy marriage. We were privileged to travel to all of the United States, have been abroad, and been on numerous Caribbean cruises and recently on an Alaskan cruise. Our last cruise was aboard Allure of the Seas, at the time 1 of the 2 largest cruise ships in the world.
