Vello isa oli sõjaväes kui Olga temast rasedaks jäi. Olga ema Auguste ei lubanud Olgal abielluda. Kui Vello oli umbes 2-aastane, viisid sakslased ema Olga Saksamaale tööle sunnitööna ja pärast sõda ei saanud ta venelaste tõttu Eestisse tagasi tulla. Olga ei näinud poega Vellot enam kunagi. Teda kasvatasid vanaema Auguste ja perekond.
- Olga was unmarried when she fell pregnant with Vello and Auguste wouldnt give consent for her to get married. Her boyfriend was in the army and got killed so Vello was given the name Pukulind. When he was about 2yrs old the germans took Olga to Germany to work as forced labour and after the war she couldnt come back to Estonia because of the Russian occupation and she never saw Vello again, he was brought up by Auguste and the family
