Verda Elizabeth (Ruffner) Painter, 88, of Kittanning, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at her residence, with her family by her side. Born July 27, 1922, in Rimersburg, she was a daughter of the late Burton Samuel and Essie Belle (Bole) Ruffner. She was a member of Free Methodist Church in Kittanning and a member of the Golden Crusaders. A homemaker, she knitted and crocheted, and loved to cook for her family. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren. Her Christian life touched her many friends, neighbors and family. Verda was very patriotic and never missed voting. She loved to read and faithfully read her Bible. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Louise (Barry) Altamos, of Rochester, Pa.; sister, Zella Mae Painter, of Rimersburg; grandchildren, Rick Altamos, of Chippewa, Jan Altamos, of Philipsburg, Pa., Pam Connely, of Rochester, Pa., Jennifer Altamos, of Valencia, Michael Painter, of Buchanan, Mich., Diane Zablotsky, of Germany, and Chuck Painter, of Knoxdale; daughter-in-law, Betty Painter, of Brookville; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Raymond Painter; infant son, Charles Edward Painter; son, Norman Raymond Painter Jr.; two sisters, Louise and Rhoda Ruffner; and four brothers, Arnold, Paul, John and Jim Ruffner. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the KENNEDY & BLODGETT FUNERAL HOME, 253 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne Sawyer officiating. Interment in Rimersburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Three Rivers Hospice.
