VICTOR LUSTIG DEAD
Victor Lustig died Sunday evening December 29, 1985 at the home of his son Joseph at Effingham after an illness which lasted several years. Funeral services are being conducted this (Thursday) morning, January 2, 1936, beginning at 9 am at the St Joseph's Catholic Church at Island Grove. Burial will take place in the parish Cemetery at that place.
Mr. Lustig was born April 30, 1854, making his age at the time of his death 81 years, 6 months and 22 days. When grown to manhood he was united in marriage to Louise Mammoser on January 13, 1879: This union was blessed with ten children, three dying in infancy. Mrs Lustig passed to the Great Beyond on November 14, 1930. The following children survive: Mrs Ray ( Lena) Brumleve of Teutopolis; Joseph and Leo of Effingham; Frank of Montrose; George of Chicago; Mrs Joseph (Anna) Flood of Woodbury; and Mrs Adolph (Clara) Koebele of Pocahontas, Iowa. The Lustig family formerly resided at Island Grove but since the death of Mrs Lustig, Mr. Lustig has been making his home with one of his children.
A large number of relatives and friends from this community are attending the funeral rites at Island Grove today. The Press extends its sincere sympathy to the children of the deceased.

VICTOR LUSTIG DIES at Home OF HIS SON In EFFINGHAM, SUN
Victor Lustig, age about 81 years, died at the home of his son Joseph M Lustig, of Effingham, Sunday evening, following a long illness form a cancerous growth and other complications.
Mr Lustig, who was born in France, has made his home for about the past two years, with his son in Effingham. Prior to the death of his wife and his late illness, he lived on a farm in the Island Grove community, three miles south of Wheeler. Hee possessed a goo disposition and was a fine neighbor and good citizen, Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, from St Joseph's Catholic Church at island Grove and internment will follow in the parish Cemetery . Rev Fr Nell will sing the requiem mass.
Surviving are four sons, Jos M of Effingham, Frank of near Montrose, Leo of Effingham, Geo of Chicago Heights, 3 daughters, Mrs Ray (Lena) Brumleve, Teutopolis, Mrs Loe (Anna) Flood, of Woodbury, Mrs Adolph (Clara) Koebele of Iowa, one brother, Grandpa Jos Lustig of near Dieterich, numerous other relatives and many sympathizing friends.
Death Cause: Cancer
Victor Lustig and Louise Mammoser were married January 13, 1879 by Father Aloysius Horen, OFM, in St Joseph Catholic Church, Island Grove. This was the third marriage in the Church. Victor Lustig helped build the first Church and they were some of the first pioneers in the Grove area. Both are buried in the St Joseph's Cemetery. Their farm home is where Mrs Allie Lidy now lives.
They were parents of seven children: Joseph, George, Mrs Joe (Anna) Flood, Frank, Mrs Ray (Lena) Brumleve, Leo and Mrs Adolph (Clara) Koebele of Iowa. The only surviving members of this original family are Mrs Ray Brumleve of Teutopolis, Teutopolis, Effingham, IL and Mrs Adolph Koebele of Iowa. Mrs Joe Flood was the mother of Mrs Donald (Loretta) Meinhart, now a member of this parish.
Family oral history says that Victor came to Illinois when he was nineteen years old. He came with his brother Joseph and two cousins, their names have been lost.
He was born in Riedseltz, Alsace, not Lorraine. In the LDS 1880 census his name is spelled Lustic
