About Vida Mae Gable
Vida M. Gable, age 90, of Orrville, passed away on Jan. 13, 2012, at Aultman Hospital following a period of declining health.
She was born Dec. 30, 1921, near Dalton, the daughter of William I. and Amelia (Horst) Gable.
Vida was a faithful member of East Union Mennonite Church, where she was also involved in the women's sewing group.
She initially worked in various households before working as a cook in the dietary department at Wooster Community Hospital. She continued as a cook at the former Wayne General Hospital in Orrville, where she retired after 23 years. After retirement, she continued working and caring for others.
Vida enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and corresponding with letters.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Donna Gable, and brother, Chester Gable, all of Orrville; sister, Mary Shank of East Berlin, Pa.; brother-in-law, David Amstutz; 16 nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Martha Horst.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Ivan and Lottie Gable; sister-in-law, Lorene Gable; sister, Emma Amstutz; and brother-in-law, Mark Shank.
Services will be held at East Union Mennonite Church on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Leonard Wenger officiating. Burial will be at County Line Mennonite Cemetery.
Friends may call at East Union Mennonite Church on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. or one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
