VINCENT R. LOPEZ SR., 84, of ASBURY PARK
April 9, 2008
VINCENT R. LOPEZ SR., 84, of ASBURY PARK, died Sunday, April 6, at home. He was a self-employed house painter and jack of all trades.
Born in Neptune, Vincent graduated from Holy Spirit Grammar School, Asbury Park, and Neptune High School and was known as "Mayor of the Asbury Park Boardwalk." You could always find him there. He loved that boardwalk and all who were there with him. He was "The BIG DOG." Vincent was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a Seabee. He was loved by Bruce Springsteen's fans around the world, the BTX Forum, Greasy Lake Forum and all who knew him not just because he was one of Bruce Springsteen's friends, but because he would talk to all and tell his grand stories about the old days. Thanks Bruce for always taking care of him when you were around the boardwalk. He will be missed by all whom have gotten to know him and all who have talked to him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mae Pownall Lopez, who died in 1989; and his sister, Adele Rumney, who died in 2006. He is survived by his son, Vincent R. Lopez Jr.; three step-grandchildren, Erik Havel, Cara Havel and Elizabeth Brooks; and his companion, Velma.
