Vincent Vass, Spotsylania. £23.15.8, due Robt. Jardine. He has experienced a greater variety of fortune than any other man in Virginia. From some short time before the debt was contracted until his death he has survived nine wives. No sooner was he ever married than he spent his wife's estate and become insolvent. He died lately in the Penitentiary House, to which place he was sentenced to several years confinement for killing his ninth and last wife. He resided in Spotsylvania County about 1789, then for some years in Caroline County and lately in Halifax County. He has been solvent and insolvent so often that I find it impossible to fix any particular dates to his various circumstances.
