About Viola Marguerite Fleming

CONCORD, N.H. – Viola M. (Duguay) Fleming, 86, cherished matriarch, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association Hospice House after a brief illness.

She was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Rumford, the youngest child of the late Arnold J. Duguay and Emma Gallant Duguay. She graduated from Rumford High School and resided in Rumford, for many years until moving to Concord in the mid-1970s with her husband. She worked in retail at J.J. Newberry’s in Rumford. She was a past president of the Sunset Club of Concord and volunteered with the New Hampshire Arabian Horse Association.

She was a longtime resident of the Florence B. Hodges Complex in Concord, N.H. She loved to crotchet and was very artistic with her patterns. She was also a gifted musician who particularly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing bingo, writing letters, reading, watching TV and going to Bible study. She was an affectionate and thoughtful mother, grandmother and friend. She was an animal lover with a special place in her heart for the Rough Collie and the Arabian horse.

She is survived by her children, Catherine “Kady” and her husband, William “Bill” Conn, of Pembroke, Sandra “Sandie” and her husband, Rowell “Rocky” McHatten Jr., of Castle Hill, Susan “Susie” and her husband, Robert “Butch” Conn, of Bow, Willard “Will” Fleming, Jr. and his wife, Tamara “Tammy,” of East Haven, Conn.; eight grandchildren; eight great-granchildren; one great-great-grandson; as well several nieces and nephews; and many close friends and relatives.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, J. Leon and J. Milton; and one sister, Yvette Boivin.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Katherine Brower and all the caring nurses and volunteers at the Concord Hospice House for their dedication and support during Viola’s illness.
