About Viola S Philo
February 13, 2001 Obituaries GRAWN - Viola S. Philo, 80, a resident of Grawn since 1946, died Saturday.
She was born on April 26, 1920, in Montcalm County, the daughter of Beryl and Ethel (Reis) Woodard. On July 29, 1939, in Brooklyn, she married Charles E. Philo, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1993.
Viola was retired from Burkes Lures and was a line supervisor at Cherry Growers, and she was a homemaker as well. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, wildlife, puzzles, traveling and wintering in Georgia with her brother. She loved her grandchildren and helped in raising them. She and her husband loved traveling in their motorcycle club, touring around the Upper Peninsula.
Viola is survived by her son, Donald (Mary) Philo of Buckley; a brother, Warner Woodard of Blackshear, Ga.; three sisters, Fern Crawfis, Jennie Grandy and Mary Evans; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Grace Parrish; and one great-granddaughter, Marsha Ann.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Estel Clark officiating. Interment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, Traverse City.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
