About Viola Myrtle Wiens

Viola was very fiesty. When her first husband (Melvin Johnson) was in the service and stationed in Washington State she hitch-hiked to go and see him. When she was refused entrance at the gate she did what she intended to do and defied the authorities but climbed over the fence. There were no security cameras long, long ago? When Mel was stationed in Louisiana she started out to drive to see him in an old car with bald tires. Upon returning she said people were really nice along the way. They even stopped to help her change tires.

Nephews and nieces remember her as Auntie Ooova a name given her by her nephew Donald Christensen who was the son of her sister Vivian and her husband Peter Christiansen. Donald was hospitilized in a Milwaukee hospital after a motorcycle accident. Viola lived in Racine, WI at the time and was at the hospital with Vivian when Freddie and I went to the hospital where Donald later died from head injuries he received in the motorcycle accident. This happened in the early 1950's.
