Violet Eva Daigle, 86 SOUTH PORTLAND -- Violet Eva Daigle, 86, of South Portland, died on March 31, 2010, with her loving family by her side. She was born on June 3, 1923, in Eagle Lake, the daughter of George and Phebian (Nicknair) Blanchette. She was a 1940 graduate of Fort Kent High School, a 1942 graduate of Madawaska Training School, then went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Gorham Normal School in 1947. Violet was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in South Portland. On June 18, 1947, she married Adrian Daigle in Waterville. Violet moved to South Portland in 1947. She started teaching at Thornton Heights Elementary School during the 1949-1950 school year. In 1960 she went on to teach 5th and 3rd grade at Frank I. Brown Elementary School, where she retired from in 1980. She was a member of the Maine Teachers Association. She enjoyed square dancing and round dancing. Violet was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Geneve Stevenson, and brothers, Hampy and Albert Blanchette. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Adrian Daigle; daughters Sandra J. Brown and her husband Frederick of Cape Elizabeth, and Karen A. Bernard of Saint Cloud, Fla., sons Gary R. Daigle and his wife Angela of Orlando, Fla., and Jeffrey P. Daigle and his wife Katherine of Windham; sisters Lucille Blanchette of Portland, and Simone Blanchette of South Portland, brothers Leo Blanchette of Ellsworth, and Eudo Blanchette of Plainsville, Conn.; grandchildren Sherri Barrett of Brunswick, Kenneth A. Brown of Portland, Robert and Linda Bernard, both of Florida, David Daigle of Florida, and James and Andrew Daigle, both of Boston, Mass.; and great- grandchildren Brandon, Selby, and Courtney Barrett, all of Brunswick, Morgan and Nathan Brown, both of Portland, and Jessica and Alexandra Violet Daigle, both of Land O Lakes, Fla. Violet's family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at the South Portland Nursing Home for all of their compassion and kindness towards Violet. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, April 5, at the chapel, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland.
