Virginia H. Fleming
Obituary

Virginia H. Fleming

May 28, 1918 - Oct. 7, 2011
Resident of Antioch

Long time Antioch resident Virginia Fleming passed away peacefully on Friday night. She touched the lives of both family and friends with her energy, positive attitude and generosity.

Virginia was born in Woodland, resided both there and in Richmond, graduating from Healdsburg High School. She married Lloyd Fleming shortly thereafter and worked briefly in San Francisco before starting a family. The family moved to Antioch in 1949 where Lloyd started a boat repair business. In 1955 they purchased the marina near Antioch Bridge known as Lloyd's Holiday Harbor [ http://www.lloydshh.com/ ]. She worked as office manager for the marina for many years and briefly held a yacht sales license. The family hosted American Field Service student, Anne-Sofie Nielsen during the 1960-61 school year.

During early years in Antioch she was a leader in both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. Later she became an active member of Soroptomists International, Native Daughters of the Golden West, the Congregational Church and Antioch Women's Golf Club. Virginia held many offices in both
Soroptomists and the nine-hole group at Antioch Golf Course. She also enjoyed a circle of women friends from high school days who continued to meet monthly for lunch for nearly 70 years. An inveterate letter writer, Virginia was also author of several poems, short stories and her life story. She painted both water colors and oils; several of her paintings of historic Antioch buildings can be seen in the Antioch Historical Society Museum.

... Her encouragement and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Interment and memorial services are pending. Donations may be made in her name to the or to Hospice.

ANTIOCH HISTORICAL SOCIETY
ART COLLECTION & DISPLAYS

In September, 2007, long-time Antioch resident Virginia Fleming, gave the museum several beautiful watercolors of Antioch and Delta scenes. Virginia has been a resident since the early 1940's and her family continues to operate Lloyd's Holiday Harbor at 415 Fleming Lane off Wilbur Avenue near the bridge. Virginia was a student of Evelyn Webb, and created these paintings in the late 1970's and 1980's. Each painting has been professionally framed and is a wonderful addition to the museum's permanent art collection.
