Virginia M. Leavens, age 81, of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, November 27, 2010, at West Wing Place in Dewitt, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Burial will follow in the Savanna Township Cemetery. A memorial visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family in Virginia's memory.

Virginia was born March 16, 1929, in Savanna, the daughter of William and Elsie (Gump) Uphoff. She attended Savanna schools. Virginia married Glen Leavens on July 12, 1947, in Savanna. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1997.

Virginia worked as an assembler at National Lock in Savanna for fourteen years and worked at United Beverage for thirteen years. Some of Virginia's many hobbies included Bingo, crochet, card games, slot machines, and gardening.

Virginia is survived and lovingly remembered by two daughters, Diana (David) Tipp of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Deborah (Jeff) Clinton of Davenport, Iowa; one son, Arthur (Deanna) Leavens of Janesville, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Tim (Erin) Trader, David (Jill) Tipp Jr., Terry Tipp, Jon (Caryn) Clinton, Andrew Clinton, Zachary Leavens, Kaylee Leavens, Dan Synder, and Michael (Lindsey) Synder; four great grandchildren, Gracie Trader, Emma Trader, Parker Synder, Blake Synder, and soon to be Baby Boy Tipp; two brothers, Robert (Carol) Uphoff of Morrison, Illinois, and James (Elanor) Uphoff of Colorado.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen; two daughters, Glenda and Ruth; three sisters, Ruth, Katherine, and Maxine; and two brothers, Bill and Jay.
