About Walter G Howard, Jr
Tech. Sgt (Ret.) Walter G. Howard Jr. passed away May 25, 2010, at The Manor at Blue Water Bay surrounded by family and very special caregivers. He was born on June 8, 1921, in Kinston, N.C. to Walter G. Howard Sr. and Pennie Howard. Walter was a resident of Niceville, Fla., since 1955, where he loved to shrimp, fish and hunt. He joined the Army on Aug. 25, 1942, and transferred to the Air Force on Feb. 8, 1946. He retired after 20 years of service on May 31, 1963. He was awarded the World War II and Korea War Medal, three Bronze Service Stars, and a World War II Victory Medal. After he retired he went to work at Eglin Air Force Base, 3202 Civil Engineering Squadron, where he retired after 20 years on Oct. 28, 1983, as an inspector. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Bertha; his brothers, James Howard and Tom Howard; sisters, Dorothy Smith, Pauline Howard, Grace Harper, Evelyn Whaley and Mary Elisabeth Henderson. He is survived by his two sons, Walter G. Howard III and Kenneth W. Howard, both of Niceville; one sister, Ann Sutton of Kinston; three grandchildren, Jennifer Tashik, Jessica Howard and Stacee Howard of Niceville; as well as three great-grandchildren, Paige Tashik, Hunter Tashik and Skylar Samson of Niceville; and several nieces and nephews.
