About Walter E Long
Walter "E" Long (1925- ) was born the son of Walter Varah Long and Ada Mathews. The Long family originated in Yorkshire, England. In the 1850s John Varah Long (1826-1869) immigrated to Utah. One of his children moved to Panaca, Nevada, and married Annie Elizabeth Heaps. Their son, Walter married into a well-known Panaca family, the Mathews family. The Mathews family first arrived in Panaca in 1866. Charles Mathews, Jr. (1857-1935) married Helen Amelia Klingensmith, daughter of Philip Klingensmith (1815-1880), former Bishop of Cedar City, Utah. Their son, Charles Philip Mathews (1883-1984) married Luverna Edessa Lee (1881-1958) who descended from the founders of Panaca. Luverna was the daughter of John Nelson Lee and Melissa Keziah Rollins. Melissa was born in California to James Henry Rollins (1816-1899) who was an associate of Joseph Smith and, later, Bishop of Minersville, Utah. Walter Varah and Ada Long and their family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in the early 1930's where the Long family has been involved in education. Descendants live in Las Vegas and Panaca, Nevada, as well as Utah and other parts of the western United States.
