Husband of Katie May Price. Son of Charles Coulson Rich and Sarah Jane Peck.

Walter Peck Rich (by Lorenzo, Phyllis and Wanda Rich)

Walter Peck Rich was born January 18, 1869, in Paris, Idaho, the youngest son of Apostle Charles Coulson Rich and Sarah Peck. His entire life was spent in Paris with the exception of a short time when he was in Salt Lake City attending what later became the University of Utah, and for a two year Eastern States mission spent in the Pennsylvania area.

He was a farmer by occupation, and owned land in the vicinity of Paris and east of Bear Lake on Antelope Flats (sometimes known as Poverty Flats). He married Katie May Price, May 29, 1901 in the Logan LDS Temple. From this union six children were born: Walter Hugh, Bernice, Lorenzo Price, Phoebe, Phyllis, and Wanda.

Walter was a skilled workman in pioneering the frontier of Bear Lake. During the times that farming did not occupy him, his services were in demand in the logging industry that flourished in Bear Lake. Most of this work was done in the winters when he could be away from the farm. He helped in the freighting of equipment that went into Camp Lifton on the north end of Bear Lake and contributed time and labor in the construction of the Logan LDS Temple.

Like most of the sons of Apostle Rich, he was an outgoing, friendly person, interesed in and devoted to all members of the large family to which he belonged. He was generous by nature and he often helped neighbors and friends with their work, sometimes at the expense of neglecting his own interests. Walter possessed an alert and inquiring mind. He was an avid self-motivated student of his history, enjoying anything of a factual historical nature that was available to him in the limited literary era in which he lived. He died at his home in Paris, July 18, 1943, and was buried in the family plot in Paris.
