On 22nd April 2002, Walter (54), originally from Switzerland, was found tied up on his bed with multiple stab wounds and his throat slit, on his farm Koopmanskraal in Kraaifontein, in the Western Cape. His friend Miemie Fourie (62) who was left for dead was taken to hospital and in a coma.
