Warren was the son of Merriman Micaja "Mack" Barker and Dulcenia S "Dulcie" Upton. He was born at home in the Alarka Community of Swain County.

Warren was first married to Mary Palestine Cochran on 05 May 1902. Performed by: H. Whiteside, Justice of the Peace at his home in Charleston Township, J.K. Nations and Elias Barker, witnesses.

Three children were born to this union: (1) Roy Merrimon Barker [1903-1976] (2) John H Barker [1904-?] (3) Leah Barker [1906-1992]

After the death of Mary, Warren would marry again to, Rosie {Parker} Stephens of Jackson County.

Four children would be born to this union: (1) Charlotte Barker [1911-1985] (2) Grady Barker [1919-?] (3) Donald Dewey Barker [1920-1957] (3) Annie Bell Barker [1924-1996]

NOTE: There is a discrepancy regarding his date of birth. His WWI Draft Registration Card states he was born 06 Mar 1882. His 1902 marriage record indicates he was 20-years of age, which again, indicates a birth year of 1882.
