About Warren Patrick Springer

Warren Springer, 93, C/371. He joined the 99th as a first lieutenant at Camp Maxey TX. Serial number O1173092. He went with C/371 to England, crossed over to LeHavre and went into combat in Belgium in September 1944. On Dec. 16, 1944, when the Germans started their Ardennes offensive, Springer and his Field Artillery Forward Observation party were in the town of Lanzerath, Belgium. When the Germans approached, the FO’s radio went out and they were unable to call in artillery fire. Springer and his three men pulled out. They came upon Lt. Lyle Bouck and his I&R Platoon and joined them as they held off the German assault for several hours until they were finally overrun and captured. Springer was held at Oflag 13b Hammelburg Bavaria 50 10. Springer was freed along with many other POWs in April 1945. He was awarded the Silver Star and a Purple Heart. After returning home, he completed his education at NYU. He was an Associate Professor of Prosthetics and Orthotics at NYU School of Medicine before retiring in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two children; and three grandchildren.

SPRINGER--Warren P., 93, on Sunday, July 20, 2008 of Springfield, NJ died peacefully at home. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, South Orange, NJ on Wednesday, July 23rd at 9:30am. Interment St. Teresa's Cemetery, Summit NJ. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, NJ on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Doctors without Borders (doctorswithoutborders.org). He served in the Army during WWII and received a Silver Star for actions taken during the Battle of the Bulge. He was an Associate Professor of Prosthetics and Orthotics at NYU School of Medicine before retiring in 1985. He is survived by Mary his wife of 54 years, his two children Joseph M. and Mary A. Springer; three grandchildren Caitlin, Benjamin and Grace Springer; brother Frederick and his sister Alice Daley.
