Wenlock Reynolds was a prominent member of his community.

Wenlock Reynolds was listed in the records of the former Providence Academy which stood beside of the present day Providence Friends Meeting in Randolph County. In 1816, the original school building burned down. Subscriptions were taken from church members for rebuilding the Academy. Wenlock is on this list. The original Friends Meeting House was built around 1776, It is thought that the original school building was built about that time.

  • ** The 1815 Randolph County Tax List showed that Wenlock owned 140 acres valued at $700.00. It was next to property owned by Mahlon Hoggett.
    • *The 1820 Randolph County Tax List showed Wenlock owned 240 acres on Polecat Creek. The land was valued at $1500.00. The land was located in what is now known as Providence Township near the community of New Salem.

1860 Census, Randolph County, N.C., #753:
Winloch Reynolds Sr. - age 78
Dinah Reynolds - age 54
Joseph Reynolds - age 33

An interesting fact about the 1860 census. Wenlock's youngest son, Wenlock Jr. was listed at household #752 with his wife, Martha and their young son, Benjamin Franklin Reynolds who would have been about 1 year old. Wenlock Jr and his family moved to the Tabernacle Church community of Guilford County, NC in 1864.

Another neighbor of Wenlock's was William Riley Neece and his wife Emily who are listed as household # 756 with their daughter, Martha V. Neece, who was 2. One of the sons from this family was Cyrus Caldwell Neece, who married Dora Reynolds, the daughter of Wenlock, Jr and Martha. Cyrus was part owner of the Company Mill in Southeast Guilford County along with Wenlock Jr and one of Wenlock's sons, John Reynolds. John ran the mill and Cyrus ran the store that was located at the mill. The house of Cyrus and Dora still stands near the Company Mill Preserve site, which is part of the Guilford County, NC park system.
