About Wesley Vinton Jordan
According to his son Charles Wesley Jordan's death certificate and the census records for his son Vinton, Wesley was born in NC, but this is probably wrong because Woodson moved to NC only after the death of his second wife Anna, Wesley Vinton's mother. Note from M. Horn - Just learned that Wesley's brother Jesse was born in NC in 1828 (according to Jesse's marriage record), Wesley may have been born in NC after all.
Need to find out where the names "Wesley" and "Vinton" came from. "Wesley" was used in the Cavender family since at least 1650. Could his mother and wife be mixed up? It would make more sense if his mother was a Cavender. He could also have been named for the founder of Methodism. Note that there are many other Wesleys in the family, going back to at least 1650, before the religious leaders were born in the early 18th century. Methodism did not take off until the mid 18th century.
"Vinton" could be for the Revolutionary War general.
After marriage, Wesley Jordan lived on Tupper's Creek for twenty years and then moved to Elk District on the farm later owned by his son James Vinton Jordan.
