Brief overview:

Wikus (30), was shot dead in front of his wife on Saturday night, at their popular bush pub, on the Burger's plot, just outside Sabie.

The Burgers were cleaning up about 01:30 after a birthday party at Die Boskroeg pub, when three masked robbers attacked them. The three robbers burst in, shouting 'Give us the money!' ". Three shots were fired, Wikus was hit in the right eye, he fell against the wall and collapsed at the door, and died shortly afterwards.

  • Godfrey Mokoena (19), was found guilty of murdering Wikus Burger. Mokoena stood trial on charges of murder, armed robbery, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
  • Mokoena will have to serve 20 years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
  • His accomplices were never traced.
