Wiley Bruce Deal was born February 1, 1919 in Bulloch County, Georgia to Oscar Deal and Bessie DeLoach Deal Dannelly. On October 24, 1937 he married Edna Josephine "Jo" Bell Deal, and they had three children: Sherry Elizabeth Deal Jones, Connie Bruce Deal Hill, and Jerry Marvin Deal.

Bruce died in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia on December 27, 1962 at age 43 and is buried in Savannah's Forest Lawn Cemetery.
