About Wilhelm O. Philipsen

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Blacksmith Wilhelm O. Philipsen, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 29 September 1879, while serving with Company D, 5th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Milk River, Colorado. With nine others Blacksmith Philipsen voluntarily attacked and captured a strong position held by Indians.
