About Wilhelm Friederich Philipp Christian Johannes Ronneberg, I

In the USA-branch of the Ronneberg family, Wilhelm Ronneberg I is mostly referenced to as "Philipp", which is also the first name of his grand father Philipp Lange. However, it follows from various documents that he was called Wilhelm.

Root of several Ronneberg branches

Although probably a more weak character, the Lutheran Wilhelm and his dominating (?) catholic wife Gertud represent the root of a very big, today worldwide-spread family with two main-branches in the USA (originating from his sons Adolph and August) including the families Ross and Hazelton in Charlotte, NC as well as the family of Johann(es) Frank Ronneberg and a branch in Germany (originating from his son Eduard) including the Klahn family.

Birth and baptism

Note: In the register of residents of Münster the year of birth of Wilhelm Ronneberg I is correctly stated to be 1806, other sources always say 1807 (by mistake). Even in the parish register of Münster, the entry of death again reads (by mistake): "Kanzleirath, 57 (instead of 58, the editor) years, leaves behind his wife and 8 minor ("minorenne") children" (see the Personenstandsarchiv Detmold: Münster, ev. Gemeinde, Sign. P & Nr. 809). The correct year of his birth (1806) as well as the correct spelling of his first names as given here follows definitely from the baptize entry in the parish register of Eschwege Altstadt, Hesse, being referenced to below).

Godfathers / godmother of Wilhelm (literal copy from the parish register of Eschwege Altsradt by Fritz Delius, Kirchenrat and Altdekan in Eschwege, March, 03,1987, copy available in the Ronneberg file of Bruno Klahn II):

Friederich v. Todenwarth, Major bei der leichten Brigade;

Philipp Lange, Rath und Oberschultheiss (= mayor), grandfather;

Wilhelm v. Rosenkranz, Capitain bei der leichten Brigade;

Christian Bode, Capitain und Inspektionsadjutant;

Fräulein Johanna von Dalwigk.

Ronneberg family and religious confession

Carl Delius II, son of a superintendent of the Lutheran church, became the stepfather of Wilhelm, when Wilhelm's mother Sophia married Carl Delius II in 1815 after divorce from her first husband (and Wilhelm's father) Matthias Ronneberg. As long as Carl Delius II was alive, all sons (apart from the still-born 5 th son) of Wilhelm were baptized Lutheran, afterwards catholic.

Residences

It is reasonable to assume that the Delius family including Wilhelm Ronneberg since 1825 resided on Gut Insel, Münster, Westphalia, which Carl Delius II bought in 1823. On May 27, 1825, an entry in Münster's DOM 3 register of residents says: "away".

It is probable that Wilhelm Ronneberg together with his wife Gertrud left Gut Insel immediately after their marriage, since Münster's DOM 3 register of residents on Speptember 1, 1841, i. e two weeks after their marriage says: "moved to 33 Martini", which is another address in Münster. Since 1853, their address is "Schützenstraße 6" in Münster.

Heritage of Gut Insel

After Carl Delius II had deceased, Wilhelm Ronneberg I bought Gut Insel from the 14 herits of Carl Delius II (6x von Arnim, 8x Delius) by contract of September 5, 1851, at a price of 10,339 Tlr. 18 Sgr. 8 Pf (for a copy of the contract see the Ronneberg archive of Bruno Klahn). In this way, the ownership of Gut Insel was legally conveyed to the Ronneberg family, which so far still belonged to Delius. After Wilhelm's death (1864), the ownership of Gut Insel was contractually rewritten to Wilhelm Ronneberg's descendants, i.e. his wife and his 8 children. This happened in 1867. This ownership was preserved for about 23 years until 1890. In 1890, his son Hermann (at that time "Referendar", i.e. junior barrister in Plön, later mayor ("Bürgermeister") of Lütjenburg) alone became the owner of Gut Insel from his six (of seven alive) siblings and from his mother. One of the (including Hermann himself altogether) eight siblings of the year 1867, probably August, was obviously not involved in conveying the ownership of Gut Insel to Hermann in 1890.

Note: The date of marriage between Wilhelm Ronneberg I and Gertrud Holter is documented in an announcement of the Münstersche Intelligenzblätter. By courtesy of Gerd Enning, who provided the reference.
