Willie Klopper (1958 - 2009)

Brief overview:

Willie (50), was sleeping alone in his townhouse when he was attacked. After his attackers tied him up, they poured fuel over him and set him on fire.

His screams at around 01:00 yesterday woke residents of the townhouse complex where he lived from their sleep.– “Help me, please! Help me!” That's what he called out in desperation after robbers tied him to his car's side mirror in his garage and set him on fire.

He tore himself free and fled through the townhouse to the outside, collapsing in the driveway.
Mrs. Lizzelle Meyer, a neighbour, was the first to see him. "When we heard the screams, we saw through the window that someone was sitting outside flat in the road. He was already lying down when we got there.
"He was burned terribly. He asked for water, but when we wanted to give it to him, he couldn't take the glass. The skin of his forearms hung from his fingertips.

"While he was still conscious, he said two large men broke in and set him on fire."
According to Mrs. Theonilde de Klerk, another neighbour, Klopper was naked when they found him. It is uncertain whether he was sleeping like this or whether he tore off his clothes when he was set on fire.
"We threw wet sheets over the uncle so that he wouldn't lie so naked in front of all the people who came to see," said De Klerk.

The car was still burning and the fire brigade and the ambulance were called. Bangs were constantly heard as things exploded in the garage.
