Sergeant Willem Pretorius (1977 - 2013)
Brief overview:
Willem (37), a police sergeant from the Gelvandale Police Station, Port Elizabeth, was found shot dead at 11.30pm on 17th August 2013, in his black Chevrolet Spark. The vehicle was parked in a clearing a few hundred metres off the R334 between Motherwell and Uitenhage. Pretorius, who lived in Sherwood, was off duty at the time of his death, and was last seen at about 9am on Thursday at Profiles gym in Walmer Downs, according to an eblockwatch posting which reported him missing. A few metres away from the vehicle, Ary van Onselen of Uitenhage was found critically injured with 22 stab wounds. He was admitted to the Cuyler Clinic in Uitenhage.
The Hawks were tasked with investigating the attacks. Police were unsure as to whether the two men knew each other. Adding to the mystery is the fact that both men were separately reported missing. The Eastern Cape police commissioner, general Celiwe Binta, has expressed her shock at the murder. SAPS Provincial spokeswoman Brigadier Marinda Mills confirmed that Mr van Onselen was reported missing.
