Steve Aldridge Jr., 87, of Albemarle passed away Saturday, May 16", 2015 in Stanly Manor Nursing Center.
His funeral service will be 11 AM Monday, May 18, 2015 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Leslee Wray officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the funeral.
Born December 8, 1927 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late William Stephen Aldridge Sr. and Mary Estelle Swaringen Aldridge and was a funeral director and an owner of Stanly Funeral Home.
Mr. Aldridge was very active in the community during his career having served on numerous boards and as a member of various organizations. He was especially proud of his service on the board of the Bank of Stanly, now Uwharrie Bank, and the work the bank has done to increase economic literacy in Stanly, Anson and Cabarrus Counties. He served as Chairman of the Board of Stanly Capital Corporation, the forerunner of the present Uwharrie Capital Corporation, from 1992-1993. Mr. Aldridge was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict and a 50 year member of Stanly Lodge #348 A.F. & A.M. In 1981 he was presented the Joseph Montfort Medal recognizing distinguished service to Freemasonry in NC. The highlight of the last 11 years of his life has been his grandson William.
Mr. Aldridge is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Helms Aldridge. Other survivors include son, W. Stephen Aldridge III and wife Deborah of Albemarle and grandson, William S. Aldridge IV. He was preceded in death by a brother E. Stancil Aldridge and sisters Maxine Aldridge Blalock and Mildred Aldridge Dowd.
