Some Prudence Island Allens : with a few connected families

William Allin, the younger, born soon before or early 1592, married Helena Horner, October 12, 1618. He married (2nd) Rosa Storke, Feb. 11, 1636. He was buried July 24, 1667. From both unions there were children. William Allin and Helena Horner Allin had these:
George, bapt. July 18, 1621. For sake of future reference, it should be noted that frequently when first-born sons did not receive the name of the father, they were named after the mother's father or favorite brother.
Dionisia, bapt. June 24, 1623.
William, bapt. July 18, 1623. See Stephen, immediately below.
Stephen, bapt. July 18, 1623. These two boys were obviously twins, and from later records it is equally obvious that both died in infancy.
John, bapt. July 22, 1626.
Anna, bapt. Nov. 18, 1628.
Alicia, bapt. Dec. 13, 1632.
William Allin and Rosa Storke Allin had the following children:
William, bapt. Aug. 19, 1640. This, if the location and records are correct, is almost certainly the WILLIAM ALLIN who emigrated to America in 1660.
Richard, bapt. May 1, 1641. Apparently he died very young; there is record of a Richard, which seems to fit no one else, who was buried Nov. 27, 1647.
Stephen, bapt. Sept. 1, 1644. He was named the same as the earlier Stephen, above, who died in infancy. He had a son William, bapt. July 22, 1671.
Lidia, bapt. Aug. 9, 1646.
Interesting is it to observe that two years after the baptism of the above William Allin, a John Parker was baptized in the same community, son of William Parker. This is of some slight importance, for when the first Allen to live in Westerly in 1730, he was accompanied by a George Parker. In Portsmouth and Prudence Island and North Kingstown and Westerly, as records show, Parkers and Allins were continuously thrown into each other's company. There was no Parker, however, among the original settlers of Portsmouth, indicating again that those of this name reached Portsmouth at approximately the same time as the first Allins.
Though so detailed a record may seem well-nigh conclusive, it is not, of course, documented to prove any relationship between these Allins and WILLIAM ALLIN of Prudence Island. But it may be of some significance that, among the burials listed, there is none of any William Allin who cannot be accounted for, except of this one, baptized 1640, the known year of our William Allin's birth.
For several generations after WILLIAM ALLIN arrived in Rhode Island, first names persistently recur which were common in the families of the William Allins in Wales: Margaret, Thomas, John, William.
In all probability, however, the records here set forth are all we shall have to go on, for future inquiry, until in England there is published an Allen genealogy. Even this might be inadequate. Future research may yet disclose records now unknown. But one may say, at least, that there are presumptive indications, of the strongest kind, to suggest that our WILLIAM goes back through three Williams in Wales, in the west Riding of Yorkshire; and that before these early Williams were numerous generations of others, who in turn stemmed from the Alans of Brittany upon whom William the Conqueror leaned for help in the invasion of 1066.
