About William Edward David Allen
Bill Allen was a British scholar, Foreign Service officer, politician and businessman, best known as a historian of South Caucasus. He was closely involved in the politics of Northern Ireland, and had fascist tendencies.
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for West Belfast between 1929 and 1931. He wrote the book A History of the Georgian People, published 1931. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the The Life Guards. He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1943. He wrote the book The Ukraine: A History, published 1941. He wrote the book Guerilla War in Abyssinia, published 1943. He was Press Attaché to the British Mission, Beirut between 1943 and 1944. He was Press Attaché to the British Embassy, Ankara between 1944 and 1947. He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1948. He wrote the book Caucasian Battlefields, published 1953, with Paul Muratoff. He was invested as a Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.). He was chairman of David Allen & Sons Ltd at Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland. He wrote the book David Allens: The History of a Family Firm 1857-1957, published 1957. He lived in 1958 at Whitechurch House, Cappagh, County Waterford, Ireland.
