Current research locates his final resting place to be an unmarked grave in Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, New Hanover County, N.C. It is believed that he was initially buried at the Hermitage plantation in New Hanover County, the home of his father in-law, George Burgwin since Oakdale Cemetery was not chartered until December 27, 1852, after Mr. Anderson’s death. Since it is also believed that his wife, Frances Eliza Bush Burgwin Anderson, is buried at her home place at the Hermitage, it is believed he would have been buried with her. In 1872 the remains of a number of members of the Burgwin family were removed from the cemetery at the Hermitage and moved to Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington. These reinterred remains included George Burgwin, his wife Maria Nash Burgwin, their son, Captain John Henry King Burgwin and “three other Burgwin family members.” Sources: Oakdale burial database (listing George Burgwin and wife and three unidentified Burgwin family members in Section H, Lot 89) and “Inscriptions” Newsletter, article: Captain J.H.K.Burgwin published by Friends of Oakdale Cemetery, Inc., Volume 8, No. 1, Spring, 2012. http://www.oakdalecemetery.org/docs/Inscriptions-Spring-2012.pdf
