Historical Data of Freedom Township, excerpt: " The site of East Freedom up to 1835 was known as the Johnstown and Bedford crossroads. Prior to this, the only building was a log school house that stood in the lot now occupied by the old Anderson - now King and Shaffer store. ..... In 1846 William Anderson came here, set up merchandising and accumulated a fortune and continued the business until he died."

Davis's book of Blair County History, pg. 114: "The following year (1846) William Anderson of Newry came as a merchant."

The 1846 Blair County Tax Records show William Anderson in Blair Township, with a house and lot, valued at $700.00 vacant lot $ 30.00 3 horses $120.00 1 occupation $100.00

In 1850, William and Jane, his three children by his deceased first wife and his first two children with Jane, had moved to Juniata Township, Blair County and he is listed as a Merchant with a value of $2,000 worth of real estate.

In 1859 in Logan Township, according to a Blair County Property Owners Map published by BCGS, William andJane own four properties.

In 1860, they had three additional children and $10,000 in personal property as well as $2,000 in real estate. Their home was now in East Freedom, Freedom Township. In 1880 he is a retired merchant.
