First, a list of ten citizens petition the clerk of the District Court in the Cherokee Nation to permit William Arledge, a "citizen of the United States," to marry Sarah Simpson, a Cherokee citizen, vouching that he is of good moral character. Marriage liense duly granted by J.M. Ross, Clerk of the Saline District of the Cherokee Nation, and wedding performed by J.B. Mayes, Judge on 31 January 1878.
