About William BELL
GEDCOM Note
Nottinghamshire Guardian 28 August 1851
Serious affray in Meal Court. On Saturday afternoon last two men named Thomas Knight, aged about 30 and William Bell, a groom, were drinking together at a public house in Nottingham. In the evening they adjourned to Bell's house in Meal Court, St James Street, where they took tea together, and appeared to be the best of terms. They ultimately, however, quarrelled about 3S. Which Knight owed to Bell, and from high words they came to blows. After several rounds Knight, in a great rage, picked up the fender, and threatened to murder Bell, who thereupon armed himself with the coal rake, and struck Knight twice on the head. He fell down in a state of insensibility, and was conveyed to the General Hospital, where it was feared that concussion of the brain would ensue. In a few hours however he rallied and on the skilful treatment is now out of danger.
