About William Baldwin
WILLIAM7, William6, Samuel5, Joseph4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Joseph1
'RESEARCH NOTES... Vital Records of Winchendon, Mass. show: Mrs. Abigail & William Baldwin, int. 5/26/1832. Certificate forbidden (probably because he was only 19 yrs old and would require parental approval)..Also showing is marriage record for Capt. Samuel Baldwin (aged 67) and Abigal Esty (aged 23) who he m. Mar. 15,1821. Her birth would have been 1798. Capt. Samuel born 1754. IF Abigail were previously married to Capt. Samuel, who died Dec.16,1831 (aged 76), and she then married with William Baldwin this dynamic works. A child, Samuel Estey Baldwin was b. to Capt. Samuel & Abigail Baldwin on July 24,1822. Children William and Marcus death records have been found showing William and Abigail Estey/Esty as parents. Child Abby d. 1839,child of William and Abigail. The marriage date cited by CC Baldwin is 6/10/1853 (which is illogical for births of children and I believe an error); Vital records for Winchendon show Capt. Samuel Baldwin d. Dec. 16,1831 (aged 76). I believe that Abiagil Esty/Estey m. Capt. Samuel, who was much older, he died, and she married William, who was much younger.'
See above: She had child by Capt. Samuel:
Child: Samuel Estey Baldwin, b 7/24/1822.
Children (by William) were: William (1834), John (1835), Abigail (1836-1839), Charles (1838), Jerusha (1840), and Marcus (1843).
- 1850 US census has children: William (37) and Abigail (59,see 1855 census), William, John, Charles, Jerusha, and Marcus. They live in Winchendon.
- 1855 census: William (42) and Abagail (57, she got younger), with family in Winchendon. They live in Winchendon.
- There is an 1870 census showing William (57) and Abigail (72) with a child Fredine (12) listed as dau. which does not seem possible since Abigail would have been 62 at her birth. This child is NOT included for that reason.
- 1889 death record has William, s/o William and ---Boynton; born Winchendon, Mass. 1813; d. in Worcester, Mass. Aug. 6,1889. Widowed, Farmer.
'Census notes: There are noted 2 problems with the 1850 to 1855 census'. These are the decreasing ages of Abigail (from 59 to 57 after 5 years) and son Charles (19 to 17 after 5 years). I make Abigail born 1798, Charles b. 1838). All others aged appropriately.'
