William, Earl of Kilmarnock, is the son of William, Earl of Kilmarnock. His mother is not mentioned in his baptismal record but there is no doubt that he is the son of Lady Jean Cunningham. The Scots Peerage V: 174 He was born before 14 April 1664, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Kilsyth in Stirlingshire, Scotland. His place of birth is not known but it seems possible that he was born at Bedenheath in the neighbouring parish of Kirkintilloch (formerly Lenzie), where his father owned the tower and five pound lands of the same name.
