About William Edmund Brown

Came to the USA from England alone at 13 years old. First wife Catherine Soper and 2 children died in a small pox epidemic on Long Island. Moved to Dobbs Ferry with the remaining children in the early 1870's and worshipped at the Summerfield Methodist Episcopal Church until his death in August 1882. He owned his own horse shoeing establishment in Dobbs Ferry, NY.(Blacksmith)

William came to USA from England, alone, at age 13 (accoarding to Alice Denike notes) There are two immigration passenger list records of a "William Brown", arriving in New York : Feb 1839, William Edmund, age 13 (?), on the Britannia from Liverpool, England; William Brown, age 18, born 1821 from Londonderry, Ireland. His first wife, Catherine Soper, and two children died on Long Island during a smallpox epidemic. He moved to Dobbs Ferry with the remaining children (how many/who? -see Alfred Edmund Brown) in the early 1870s. He and Alfred were mambers of the Summerfield Methodist Episcopal Church. Willima was a blacksmith and owned his own farrier establishment in Dobbs Ferry (where?). His brother's son was instrumental in foudning the Christian Endeavor Society in England and visited the USE as a C.E. representative. (Source: Alice Denike, letter to Rev. Dr. Frederick E. Maset, Philadelphia). William Edmund succumbed to cholera in 1882 and is interred at Cypress Hill Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY: Lot 269, section 2, #1.
