Note: This appears to be the William Crowder who moved to Cleveland Co.N.C.1795-96 from Virginia, according to a Rev.War pension application.Another researcher claims to have his land records in Meck.Co.VA. During the American Revolution, that Wm.enlisted in 1781 while residing in Mecklenburg Co,VA as a Pvt.Commissary in Capt.Rob't.Smith's VA.Company.Earlier,in 1776,his brother Phillip(determined to be the son of Dr.Abraham(b.1730)and Frances Tucker Crowder) substituted for him, entering service in Mecklenburg Co.VA,serving as an Orderly Sgt.in Capt.Richard Sweptson's Co.in Col.Fred'k.Machlin's Reg't."as substitute for brother William". In 1781 Phillip was an Orderly Sgt.in Capt.Jessie Sanders'Co.in Col.Alexander Dick's Reg't. Phillip was also a Pvt.in Capt.Richard Eperson's Co.Rutherford Co.NC,and later moved to KY.and later ILL. This William supposedly paid taxes in Sullivan Co.Tennessee in 1796,but that appears to be a different William (Wm.Barlow Crowder Sr.). Our Wm.of Mecklenburg Co.(d.1839-40) married #1 Barbara Barlow and had one son,Anderson, who married Rebecca Wilbourn (according to author Patricia Crowder Yaw,2007); #2 Elizabeth (Nancy) Hobbs (the mother of Jarrel, according to Pat Yaw,who states that William was divorced from Nancy); #3 Lucy Thompson,15 Sept.1825,Rutherford Co.NC,Thos.Martin,b.m. William mentions wife Lucy in his will;the wife "Nancy" in William's will abstract (Rutherford Co.NC Wills and Misc.Records,1783-1868,compiled by Wooley,p.100) is not in the original written will, but apparently was added later according to Pat Yaw. Some LDS records indicate Jarrell Crowder's mother was Phoebe Elder, but Phoebe was the wife of Wm.Barlow Crowder Sr.,son of Mark and Ann (Barlow) Crowder. Wm. Barlow Crowder (Sr.)and wife Phoebe Elder had children John Elder Crowder,Wm.Barlow Jr.b.c1789 Sullivan Co.TN.(married a Wise),Mark, and dau. Sally who married John Titus. Note: Our William's(d.1839) daughter Sarah (Sally) Crowder married Absalom Warlick. Absalom and his brother-in-law Michael Schenck started the "Schenck-Warlick Mill" c1815,the first successful textile mill south of the Potomac. The machines inside the mill were built by Michael Beam (1782-1848/49). Note: William is called "Dr. Crowder" in regards to his marriage to Lucy Thompson,p.415 Pieter Heyl and his Descendants,by Rucker.
