GEDCOM Note

On Willilam Sr.'s death, the land by law reverted to the oldest son. However, William knew that his father wanted to give the land to his other son Robert, therefore William deeded the property over to Robert on April 9, 1787. (note: in deed, William listed as from Monongalia Co., W.Va.)

In 1785, William Darling applied for Land Grant for 400 acres in the area of Buffalo Knob, Monongalia Co. Va.

from "The History of Preston Co., West Va." by S.T. Wiley, page 456 (note: Monongalia Co. part they lived in became Preston Co.) List early settlements---" about this time(1790), came Robert Beatty, George Gillaspy, Robert Butler,Abraham Darling, and the balls."...... same page " the Darlings were here at about this time. A tradition asserts that a sister of William Darling was catured by Indians on the Copeman Farm, where they then lived. " ......." Hiram Royse came from Somerset Co, Pa., in 1806, and bought the Darling Farm."

Page 337 Villages in Jackson Township The first village started was named Front Royal, located on the farm owned by Wm. Darling, in the north part of the township, about 1832. It had a smal store and a blacksmith shop, with several residences. For a number of years it flourished as a county village, but when it became known that the tittle to the land on which the lots had been plotted was not good, the place was soon abandoned.

At time of writting the only village within Jackson township is Bladensburg. _COLOR 1
