Source: David Tutje family written history. Family history, at one time in the possession of Audley Weston, had it that William J. Davis enlisted and fought in the Civil War, was captured and imprisoned in Andersonville, was released at the end of the war and came home and died in the arms of his fiance within the year. This romantic story was confirmed by by cemetery record, Center Grove Cemetery in Union Twp., Story County. Will is in the first grave in row 13 of the south section next to five graves of the Groseclose family. The record lists: Davis, James W., born April 6, 1840; entered in the 8th Iowa Cavalry July 8 1863; was captured July 30 1864; was released from Andersonville Prison, April 17 1865; died June 25, 1865.
