Enlisted August 15, 1862 at Charleston, (W) Va in Company A, 13th Regiment, Virginia Volunteers for three years.

Killed Oct. 19, 1864 at the Battle of Cedar Creek near Middletown, VA.

His father came from Charleston, WV, recovered his body from the battlefield grave site and took it for burial at Winchester National Cemetery.
