MEMORIAL PHOTOS 5 FLOWERS 4 The last Confederate veteran living in the Arkansas ,Confederate Home, W.J. Deal, aged 99, died in a Little Rock hospital Wednesday morning The flag at the home was put at half mast in commemoration of the death of the last of hundreds of Confederate veterans who spent their sunset years in the home. Mr. Deal joined the home guard near his home in Egypt,AR now Hamburg,AR, in the closing days of the war in 1865. He was 16 at the time and served near El Dorado,AR in Company G under a Colonel Slemmons and Captain Davis Later he farmed near Hamburg. He was married four times and had 19 children and 12 of whom are living. His last marriage took place about 12 years ago at the Confederate home to Mrs. Ella Browning, the widow of another Confederate veteran who was living there. He is survived by his eight sons, W.B. Deal of Lake Providence,LA, Marvin Deal of Arkansas City, Ozell and Frank Deal of Crossett, Jim and Ab Deal of Hamburg, Bunty and Radford Deal of Bastrop,LA, and four daughters, Mrs. Ella Caughlin of Memphis, Mrs. Mamie Lewis of Crossett, Mrs. Vick Boyd and Mrs. Georgie Knight of Monroe,LA. Funeral will be at the First Baptist Church in Crossett at 2:00PM Thursday. Burial will be at Judson Cemetery near Hamburg, the family cemetery.
