William W. Edington, son of Thomas R. and Ursula Edington, was bom in Coschoton county, Ohio, October 22, 1855. Moved to Greene county, Indiana, the following year with his parents, where he had lived continually ever since. He was the third child of a family of eight children, four of whom survive him.

He was married February 6, 1873, to Rebecca Hays, to which union five children were bom, two of whom, Mrs. Chas. E. Combs and Walter, the youngest son, are still living.

In March, 1896, he accepted Christ and united with the Christian church under the pastorate of the Rev. Geo. T. Smith.

He died suddenly Friday , February 18, 1921, at 12:30 p. m., of heart failure.

His death came as a shock to the entire community, as only his very intimate friends knew of the seriousness of his condition, which had Men rather critical for three or four years:

He had always been active and energetic in the affairs of the county and community in which he lived, and his congenial disposition, his warm and hearty welcome greeting, and his wholesome, genuine friendship to friend and foe alike made him popular in the fullest sense of the term.

He served his county in the capacity of sheriff for four years, and was a popular and accommodating official. After the expiration of term of office, he moved to the farm where ho remained till his death.

In January, 1918, ha was appointed by the county commissioners as superintendent of county gravel road repair, and after serving in that capacity for two years, was reappointed.

No man in public life had more friends, and no one ever served the public more industriously. He spoke no ill of anyone; -was pure and clean in conversation; was loyal to his friends and sacrificed his very life's blood for his family. He was active to the last hour, and, as was characteristic of his life, never gave up the fight until the last heart beat. We shall miss him in his activities, but we cherish his memory, forget his faults and hope to emulate hia many virtues.

The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at his home, conducted by Elder T. A. Cox, assisted by Rev. Moody. Interment was in Grand View cemetery at Bloomfield

We desire to thank our friends, neighbors, the undertaker, Bro. Cox, the singers, pallbearers and all others for their kindness and sympathy .shown and expressed at the death and burial of our husband and father and grandfather, William W. Edington.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Dec 19 2019, 5:50:02 UTC
