About William Thomas Fairburn

William Thomas Fairburn (1795–1859) was a carpenter and a lay preacher or catachist for the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in the early days of European settlement of New Zealand. He accompanied Henry Williams and a Maori war party to Tauranga in 1832. William died at his Auckland home which was named 'Ravensbourne' after the River Ravensbourne, a tributary of the River Thames in south London, England, which flows into the tidal River Thames at Deptford, where its tidal reach is known as Deptford Creek.
